1960's-1970's -Blandford was originally policed by
the MA State Police and town constables up until the early to mid 1970's.
At this time there was no formal training required to be a constable.
1970's - The Police Department was formed in the mid
1970's. This occurred when the Massachusetts Criminal Justice
Training Council introduced state mandated standardized training for
Police Officers in the state of Massachusetts. The department
consisted of 5 sworn personnel.
1985, The town of Blandford Purchases the Police
Department it's first marked cruiser. a 1985 Crown
Victoria.
1995 - The Town replaces the 1985 Crown Vic with a
new, 1995 Crown Vic. This car would go from being a marked unit to an
unmarked unit, and back to being a marked unit.
2007 - The Department Purchases a new 2007 Crown
Vic. the department will keep the 1995 crown Vic. as a spare/back up
unit.
2007 - Special Officers are re-introduced to the
department. The Special officers are used to assist Blandford
Officers.
2008 - After a long hiatus the department has brought
back the use of Mountain bikes.
